New School Governors Needed

Dear Parents/Carer,

As you will be aware, Stepney Primary School is part of the Thrive Co-operative Learning Trust with 2 secondary schools and 6 other primary schools. We are now in a position to formally elect a Parent Governor onto the Local Governing Body. Governors are asking you to nominate yourself if you have parental responsibility for a child of school age at attending any School. You should also complete the details of 2 proposers for you to be a parent governor. Should there be more than two nominations, then a ballot will be held.

When nominating yourself, you may want to know more about what is involved; Governors do not need to be experts in the field of education, what is needed is an interest in Stepney Primary School and in the welfare of our students together with the time and willingness to be involved. Your skills may be very useful as part of the Governing Body. Governors need to build relationships with a range of people, to be able to work as part of a team, to be able to question and the ability to make connections between different types of information. All Governors are expected to be able to read straightforward Budget Report and Data on school standards.

The Governing Body is responsible for the conduct of the school and for promoting high standards and carries out its role by supporting the vision for the school and ensuring that the school works effectively towards achieving the vision. It does this by building a thorough knowledge of the school and its community, by supporting and constructively challenging the school.

The Governing Body is made up of a Parent Governor, a Staff Governor and Co-opted Governors who are expected to:

  • Attend one meeting a term

  • Visit the school formally for monitoring purposes

  • Complete any relevant training courses

  • Take part in monitoring at least one area of the school’s work

Attached is the Thrive LGB Terms of Reference which explains the core functions of the LGB, length of term of office and expectations of being a parent governor. If you are interested in being a Parent Governor, please complete the attached nomination form with biography and read and sign the disqualification criteria and return the forms to the school office or email them to admin.stepney@thrivetrust.uk by 10am on Tuesday 21st September 2021.

Yours sincerely

Paul Browning Headteacher
