to Year 6 Kid's Zone
6 at ALLERTHORPE 2011
On Wednesday 6th July 2011, class 5/6 went on an outward bound visit to Allerthorpe Lakeland park, which is a watersports activity centre, near to Pocklington. The children took part in a variety of activities:
In groups, they had to construct rafts using plastic drums, wooden planks and rope. It proved to be quite a challenge! These had to be tested in the lake. They then learned how to sail small dinghies. With one person holding the tiller and the other controlling the sail, they ventured off onto the lake, navigating around buoys. Thirdly, they mastered the art of paddling a kayak. This also involved team games, such as water polo and being able to stand up in their kayak without falling off. At the end of a very enjoyable day, they were all allowed to jump off the end of the jetty into the lake! (Needless to say, everyone had proper buoyancy aids and water sports jackets) The instructors: Les, Richard and Shaun made sure everyone was safe and they gave expert instruction throughout the day.
